Pomona Unified hosted the annual District Spelling Bee on Thursday, February 20, 2025. The Bee is a competition for students in grades 4 – 8. After winning their School Bees, the top spellers from 27 school sites came together for a heated battle to determine who the three best spellers are in the district. After 12 rounds, the winner was declared after correctly spelling A-R-B-I-T-R-A-R-Y.
The first place winner was Sophia Anenias, a fifth grade student from Lexington Elementary. She will represent our district at the Los Angeles County Spelling Bee in March. The winner of the county bee will go on to the California State Spelling Bee and the Scripps National Spelling Bee!
Second Place in the PUSD Bee went to Natalie Garcia, a 7th grade student from Lorbeer Middle School. This was Natalie’s second year competing in the District Bee! (She won Third Place last year)
In Third Place in this year’s Bee was Edwin Perez-Lozano, a 6th grade student from Vejar Elementary.
